Misty's must have Bob the Builder kit for 10.23.10

all together now - because it's in my head for all time - can we build it? yes we can!

Jenn's "New" Kit for 10.23.10 - Fly Free - and one kick your u know what story

This story really spoke to my heart at MOPS the other week...

Updating this blog.... 7 months later!

this is sad. But I'm back, and the stories I could tell.
Three main things to note - songbird avenue closed its doors. Jan and Meredith did a world of good, and bless them both. Jenn Barrette has graciously invited me to play with her gorgeous creations! And now soon, I will be doing all with PS 5 and ACDSee 10 given my Windows 7 environment.

Happy fall, everyone!

ACDSee Photo Manager 2009 is on Sale

for a limited time - $29!

It's PC users only - and it's like Brussels sprouts, you either love it, tolerate it because that's just your way, or hate it. Personally, i cannot scrap without it. And i have found the 2009 version to have been far more stable than the earlier version i had. Still haven't turned on even likely half of the functions, nor have i completely figured out embedding, but i live in hope. And let's not talk about tagging stashes, shall we?

Here's the link. Enjoy!

update on the Olympics situation . . . and a chance to win!

For some of you who were aware - our housing for our long awaited and much hoped for visit to the Vancouver 2010 games fell through at the last minute - but we were able to find a place to stay - PtL! - not on Whistler - because as we all know I simply cannot spend money That Freely - going rate is in excess of $1200/night right now - (but oh, wouldn't it be nice to have that problem sometime? Lord? maybe?) nor quite frankly do I have it to spend - but anyway, Big Sweetie and I are headed up while T@2 exhausts his watchers. WHoo Hoo!

Just read in the paper this morning about several scams already uncovered - this isn't a scam, per se, but unfortunate: apparently whether or not the Norwegian Star, a cruise ship, will or will not be able to berth at Vancouver is not set - some people already booked suites months ago for $1500/night and this week they were going for $275/night with food provided - sounded a bit too good to be true for me, and hopefully for those booked it won't be . . . but they will not find out for certain until at least Friday!

Claire, a.k.a. shades of bliss, incredibly gifted scrapper extraordinare, has generously offered up a gift certificate for the Songbird Avenue Haiti kit - all you have to do is comment on the MSA forum here for a chance to win . . . good luck!

a story...

so as we're putting Mr. Terror at Two Turning Three to bed, he pops out with this...

T@2: "I'm going to tell you a story now, ok?"

Mama & Daddy: "Ok, we're listening."

T@2: "One little day, there was a fish named Nemo.
He lived in the ocean far away.

yes, this will be scrapped onto a page. and soon.

Thursday, January 14, 2010

Just spent part of the morning - between playing cars with my son and the various and sundry parts that come with being a mama and general COO of the house - attempting to catch up with the world, and read some detailed pieces on Haiti. Mercy. That poor, and i'm not being Southern now, country has faced more devastation in the past 15 years between hurricanes, flooding, violent storms, and now this - a crippling earthquake - than they are equipped to handle given their rampant, unchecked poverty.

I'm crunching numbers to squeeze our budget to figure out our number to send aid, and really encourage y'all to do so too. These are hurting, hungry, poor people who need help. Here are some great organizations:

can it be done?

some of you family that have found this blog may have noted the language - it's a bit scrapping centric, so i'll strive to re-focus that a bit, or at least explain myself a bit more - but one of the items that i'm going to try this year to preserve as a memory book is called a "Book of Me". Face Value, knee jerk reaction to this was whoa, what incredible hubris!! but then, i went through my photos. Hundreds over three years, and maybe 10 had my face in them. So if I get hit by the proverbial bus tomorrow, how will my husband explain to my son who his mother was? How am I going to be remembered (other than as a toast when 'hard-headed woman' comes over the airwaves)? so, i'm giving it a try. and it's one of the toughest things i've done so far - cause introspective is ok when it's all talk, but when you are getting it down on paper, and it's more than words - whew.

Here's the first page - some of it's blanked for privacy here - i know i'm paranoid (long story), and it has something new coming from Misty on Saturday at the Sweet Shoppe, so the credits will be linked up Friday the 15th.
and the second - using a question from Friday Love Letters / Baby Love Letters by Bev Hawley (please click image for full credits of items used to make the page)
the handwriting is actually mine! ha! think i need to work on that a bit, eh? playing around with writing a bit and scanning it in, not sure I want Darcy to make my handwriting into a font for me yet. Teared up pretty good when I found a note from Pop the other day, though, so I know I need to be preserving handwriting as well.

Going to be using the same background for all the pages of the book, with the square center, and then switching out what I use for the design of the page. Kinda neat this exciting, terrified feeling. Or maybe I'm just avoiding tax season again.

crazy mama . . .

ok - so each year i buy a wacko hat for my son - because I can't wear one myself, essentially. You've seen the photos. They all involve fleece and pointy jester style - but he.is.so.cute. Of course I am biased. Here's this year's edition.
please click image for full credits
the plan is to put it across from to this page (i've given up chronological scrapping at the moment)

a moment of utter shock...

i just found out that CBC will not have the coverage of the Olympic games for Canada, but CTV has it.
This is not good.
Really truly not good.
Horrendously awfully in shock not good.
It was one of the greatest blessings of my life, moving to within range of broadcasting from Canada's CBC Olympic coverage, so to avoid the "personality driven" rather than performance focused coverage of NBC - Nothing (but) Bob Costas.

Yikes. that shuddering you are feeling is my hockey withdrawal symptoms already setting in . . .

Sweet Shoppe Saturday - previews!

Top Ten Books of 2009

part of the Sweet Shoppe Portfolio challenges for January - a year in review challenge: pop culture - a top ten list for 2009 - so here's the top ten storytime books (subject to great debate at dinnertime) we enjoyed as a family in 2009 with our little terror at two turning three:

2010 - thinking of changing things around a bit . . .

regarding when and how I scrap - radically.

Resolutions - I am resolute when I make them, and then when I don't follow through, it's like this cloud hanging over me for the rest of the year, so I'm not making resolutions this year, I'm setting goals. Reasonable, attainable goals.

1. Print a photobook of digi scrapbook pages for someone else. Because this way I'll end up with one too.

2. Scrap beyond CT requirements. In looking over 2009 - wow, this needs some attention for 2010. Or does it?

3. Complete the year-in-review for 2009. / Make the best attempt possible at maintaining up to date with a month by month review of 2010 as it happens.

I'm not participating much in Log Your Memory - the idea thrills me, the books - just not my style. If Kristen comes out with a more visually streamlined version, I'll likely reconsider. I have a 10 year journal and sketch and think that'll do for now. Audrey Neal opening up shop again at Design House Digital is likely influencing me as well.

Love, love the new challenge portfolio options at Sweet Shoppe Designs - especially having all the challenges in PDF format at the first of the month. One happy little planner person here. Budget constraints are going to keep my digi buys real minimal this year, so with my time we'll see how this will work too, but it'll be great using these killer scrap ideas and my stash - maybe i'll just drop non-SSD product pages into open galleries and run with it.

Big thoughts, big plans, eh?

Songbird Avenue - January 2010

a beautiful, peaceful kit, for the benefit of Make a Child Smile Organization - a collaboration with Kari Hentzelt - and the colors of this kit are so soothing and melodious!

this kit even brought some peace to our current uproar - dealing with Mr. Terror at Two turning Three and all the fun That is bringing about, tantrums, temptests in a teapot . . . tension headaches, time outs (okay i'll stop now, you get the picture)

Jan may do up a QP set for this kit as well, but if not, and you buy the kit and would like the above as a QP - drop me a comment? all the best to you and yours in 2010. Smile.

A new Fee kit

is coming, and it's one fab kit for your little space traveler, or not - as you see below? This is my attempt at a lift of the incredible ms.jb, Jaclyn Bernado. Please click the image for full credits.

Happy New Year, all y'all . . .

and may 2010 be our best year yet!

Christmas came and went - whoosh - oh, so fast! it speeds by each year, faster and faster it seems. Here are a few of my favorite photos/crafts:
which is a lift of this one, from this Incredible crafty blog

my son's advent calendar, which we hung on the refrigerator, was this lovely by Jacque Larsen and Amber Clagg - the stars and calendar i had laminated at an office supply store, stars are attached with removable Zots adhesive dots, and the whole she-bang I attached to the fridge with 3M removable squares (which to me represent Abosolute Proof that somebody in 3M is sheer genius)- he had so much fun putting the star on for each day, plus it helps with learning numbers . . .
